Loop across Isle of Purbeck to Old Harry and back
Venetia and I set off in the morning form Kingston to ride around the coast towards Studland and Old Harry, bridleway all the way. Charlotte and Elizabeth were to join us at an agreed spot, so that Elizabeth could enjoy the sea views too.
The evening before Charlie had run us round to suss out a good meeting point with the trailer and where he wanted to get the best shots. Beautiful clear views at that time but today sadly we woke to mist.
The morning ride out wasn’t too bad but we could see the clouds rolling in and by the time we hit the coast we were riding through mist. Despite this we all enjoyed the grassy surface and feeling of freedom high up on the top of the chalk cliffs. And Charlie managed to get some stunning photos despite the weather.
In the morning after crossing the Isle of Purbeck and riding up onto the ridge, we made a point of looking back and remembering where we needed to go down when we returned. By the time we did, it was thick fog and we had to rely on the horses’ homing instincts, which they did with great accuracy. We have noticed that the horses wish to return to the pervious night’s stop. We wonder whether if we let them go, they would return to Dartmoor?! Certainly returning to Kingston from Old Harry, they were far more forward going than they have been for a long time.
